I was in Chicago visiting friends and family, and went out to dinner with a friend and a warm spring evening.
There had been a snowstorm a few days earlier that left some thick patches of ice and as we were walking through the park. I was wearing a new pair of penny loafers and I came upon a big patch of ice that extended the entire length of the sidewalk and I just started sliding and slid all the way to the end of the sidewalk to my friend's and my own amusement and surprise.
Just as I came to the end of the sidewalk, I recognized an old school friend, Madeline Khan, walking with two other women, and and our eyes connected and she ran over to greet me.
I told her I was back home visiting and we started walking and talking and reminiscing and and I asked her about her son Elliot and she was surprised that I remembered his name but I said that I see all of her proud mother posts about her son on Facebook and she said he was doing well that he was working in the same company as her husband, who she referred to as Blue Eyes in her social media posts.
She went on to continue that her son was in school, studying Art History.
She asked me about my daughters saying that she remembered I had three, so I corrected her saying I had four.
Just then, another young woman came up behind us and Madeline introduced me to the young woman as her daughter, though I didn’t remember her having a daughter.
We came to the end of the street and she said that she had to be going, that it was nice seeing me.
I continued walking, hoping I was going the right direction on Clark Street heading north trying to get back to where I was staying at my friend Aaron Lew's house on Farwell.
Crossing the street, I found myself holding a metal device attached to a telescoping rod and pushing it along the pavement, making a terrible commotion, and finally got to the end of the street and recognized where I was and turning left heading west toward my friend's house.
Then I woke up.
