I got the call early in the morning that I was to report to a remote location, but my supervisor said when I arrived at the car rental office a surprise I was certain to be pleased with would be waiting for me.
The guy at the car rental office drove me to the outside lot where a late 1970s white Cadillac Eldorado was being detailed.
The guy said my boss wanted me to have a special car seeing that he had called me in to work on what was officially supposed to be the first day of my vacation.
I couldn't help thinking how much the gasoline would cost, but figured the company would be paying so I thanked the guy as he handed me the keys to the Eldorado.
As I drove off the car rental lot, I made my way back into the Valley with the radio playing loud and my left arm dangling out the window while my right arm steered the car effortlessly with its slick-feeling power steering.
I arrived back at my house and my girlfriend was standing beside her car in my driveway with a look of bewilderment and slight contempt as I realized she must have been waiting for over an hour.
I told her about my assignment and apologized for not calling saying I didn't have my secure phone with me. I said we could leave for Colorado at once but there would be some business I'd have to take care of in Vegas on the way.
We went into the house and I made coffee and toasted some bagels and after our quick breakfast, I went to my room to get my suitcase.
Outside, my girlfriend grabbed her suitcase from her car and I loaded our luggage into the Eldorado and we drove off.
Then I woke up.
