Incarcerated* | The Dreamweaver

Writer's picture: The DreamweaverThe Dreamweaver

I was incarcerated in an over-crowded, rat-infested prison in Latin America.

I was alone in my cell, which was very nicely appointed with furnishings and high quality bedding.

The cell door was open as other inmates and guards would come by, pop their heads in and say "hello" as if I were some sort of celebrity.

Suddenly, an alarm went off and I heard the sounds of cell doors slamming shut, though mine remained open as an eerie silence emerged.

Just then, Beny, an old friend of mine who I knew when I lived in Valencia, appeared at my cell door and I was completely surprised and overcome with emotion seeing her standing there.

She greeted me with a warm hug and two kisses on the cheek and told me she had been living in Uruguay.

I was a bit confused because I had always remembered that she was from Paraguay.

She said she always told people that she came from Uruguay so she wouldn't be discriminated against.

Then, she handed me a plain brown paper bag, smiled and said, "this is for you."

The bag contained the largest, most beautiful red apples I had ever seen.

Then I woke up.
